Vegan Green Papaya Salad (Som Tam)

Som Tam – Green Papaya Salad is the best known salad in whole Thailand. You can find similar versions of this salad in Laos as well. Som Tam is tradionally made with fish sauce but in our vegan version we replaced it with soy sauce and it is less tasty then the original salad. If you don´t have or if you don´t want to buy a green papaya you also can use carrots or cucumber instead of papaya.

Ingredients
1 green papaya, peeled and sliced in thin stripes
2-4 Thai chilis, chopped
3 garlic gloves
2 long beans or 10 green beans, cut in 3 cm pieces
2 tbs soy sauce
2 tbs lemon juice
1 tbs palm sugar
2 tbs tamarind paste
2 tomatoes (sliced)
2 tbs roasted peanuts

Put chilis and garlic in a big mortar and prestle. Add papaya stripes and beans and prestle.

Add soy sauce, lemon juice and palm sugar and prestle. Add tamarind paste, tomatoes and peanuts and pestle again. Serve on a plate with sticky rice.
