Street Food in Da Lat (SEA 87)
Last post: Outdoor sports in Da Lat (SEA 86)
On my last day in Da Lat Anni (The owner of the Family Hostel) took me out for lunch. She showed me her favorite Vietnamese dishes from small street food stalls located in her neighborhood. Going out for lunch with locals is always the best you can do.
First we had a vegetarian soup and I couldn´t remember the name of it. What a shame. I just remember it was very delicious.
After the soup we had Bánh Uòt. That´s a Vietnamese thin pancake wrapper consisting of rice noodle sheets, eaten with nước chấm, fried shallots, and a side of chả lụa (Vietnamese pork sausage).
Next we had Bánh txáng nuòng. That’s a thin tarte flambée. It looks like you eat one on France but the dough is made from rice flour. Finally we had Bánh Beò. A Vietnamese steamed rice cake. The cake is white in color and typically features a dimple in the center, which is filled with savory ingredients including chopped dried or fresh shrimp, scallions, mung bean paste, crispy fried shallots, fish sauce, rice vinegar, and oil. It is considered most typical of the cuisine of Huế.
All of the dishes where super delicious and I have to say thank you Anni for giving me this lesson in central Vietnamese cuisine.
Around Da Lat are so much more things to see but I´m running out of time and so I have to take the bus to Nah Trang. There I´d like to take the train to Hoi An.
