Poon Hill or Tourists, Tourists, Tourists… (Nepal 18)

Last post: Tadapani to Gorapani (Nepal 17)

When you are in Gorapani you will do the same that everyone does. You get up at 5 am and force you body (asking for more sleep) to walk up to Poon Hill. It takes you one hour to get there. But if you look for silence and pure nature this is the place you shouldn´t go to. But we did.

On Poon Hill you can find a new build wooden platform. What for? To be honest: You have a wonderful view and the sunrise at Poon Hill is really special. Because of the sun is shining over the mountains in the east exactly to the top of Mt. Annapurna I on the opposite side in the west. But it´s hard to enjoy the moment. People up there were screaming when the sun started to rise. What the hell? Haven´t you ever seen a sunrise?

We went down and left the big crowd behind us on top of the hill. We packed our stuff and left in direction Nayapul. From now it seems like we were running down the hill. We had to go down 3300 steps from Uleri to Thikenhunge. The last hard part on our trek. My knees said “Thank you” for one more time. But many people passed by that day and for them it was even harder. They had to go up.

At the end of the trek the path ended and we were standing on a new built Jeep road. The road was built next to a few small villages and you could see that the road wasn´t good for them. Lazy tourists prefer to take the Jeep to come as close as possible to their destination Poon Hill.

So we decided to stay in one of the small villages. We stopped in a place with only two houses and a grandma of 70 smiled to us. We haven´t had to think for one second. This is the place we would like to stay for one night.

It was still early afternoon and close to the guesthouse was a mountain river. We went down to the river bought a beer and went swimming in the fresh water. The beer we drank on a big stone was like a present for the end of a fantastic trekking tour.

One more time we had a delicious Dal Bhat made with love by the grandma of the guesthouse. Tomorrow morning we will have a short walk to the end of our tour before we go back to Pokhara.
